IWSG 03 June 2026: Story Ideas
QUESTION: – Do most of your story ideas come from one place (the news, dreams, etc.) or do they hit from all over the place?
MY ANSWER: – Our life inspires my stories. My spark for writing ignited my first night at sea. I was standing at the helm of La Vita off the coast of Mexico. Our life story continues to flow on to the page.
Fifteen years later, we sold La Vita, but Mexico is still home. This past May, we flew to San Diego for medical checkups and stayed at the Navy Lodge on base. On Mother’s Day, my husband Rick took me to Red Lobster for an early lunch.
Later that afternoon, he was admitted to Naval Hospital emergency and treated for a stroke. I have lot’s to write about. More importantly: Rick needs a virtual speech therapist.
If you are able to refer us to a virtual speech therapist, I’d be deeply grateful.
Insecure Writer’s Support Group (IWSG) is enjoying its monthly blog-fest invented by Alex J. Cavanaugh. IWSG is a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds.
The awesome co-hosts for our June 6th posting of the IWSG are Victoria Marie Lees, Sarah Foster, Natalie Aguirre, and C. Lee McKenzie!

My heart and prayers go out to you.
I’ve been in your place, Lynn, so I understand. I hope you find that virtual speech therapist and that Rick recovers. Sending all my best energy your way.

What a blow to your family, Lynn. I’m glad you were in the US for medical care at the time. Prayers for you and your husband!
I’m so sorry that your husband had a stroke. I hope he recovers soon. I’m sending you lots of prayers.
Praying for a speedy recovery! I wish I had someone to recommend. I used to work with virtual speech therapists as an online special education teacher, but they only worked with children. But I know there are some excellent ones out there.
Sorry I can’t help. It’s hard to be strong at times like these. Email if you need a shoulder or a place to vent. I’m with you in spirit.
Take care
I’m sorry about your husband. Hoping he recovers soon.
Sorry to hear that! Sorry, I’m in the wrong part of the country to help you. Prayers for his recovery.
I’m so sorry, Lynn! My heart goes out to you and Rick. May he recover well!
Challenges ahead, but you are brave. Persevere! My husband also had a stroke while we were traveling . . . that was now over 10 years ago, and he is fine, just now enjoying some basketball finals game. So this still leaves me this lesson: Cherish each day and the memories you have. Make new ones. I hope that Rick soon recovers.
Hugs 🫂
I’m a stroke survivor. Thankfully, didn’t need a speech therapist. (Yet. The doc promised I’ll have more, but probably not survive. Thanks… 😒😬😑)
And to be traveling at the time? Double yikes! Hope you’re able to safely get home to help.
Oh my gosh, Lynn! You and your husband are in my prayers. Daily! Stay strong, dear friend.
